Embedded software engineer in a greenfield project.
About the Company Our client is an innovative technology company specializing in high-speed, lightweight systems for advanced aerospace and industrial applications. Their solutions contribute to the development of energy-efficient technologies that support global sustainability goals, including the transition to net-zero CO₂ emissions. With a strong foundation in high-performance systems the company has grown into a global player in the field of engineering for aerospace. It employs over 250 professionals across several locations in Western and Eastern Europe.
The Engineering Challenge The company develops innovative compact, high-tech systems that are being adopted in aerospace and industrial environments. These systems are of the highest quality used in applications such as environmental- and thermal control. As the industry moves toward more sustainable and electrified solutions, the company is focused on pushing the boundaries of performance, integration, and reliability.
Your Role as embedded software engineer As their first Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a key role in establishing the software foundation for the next-generation ECU platform. This is a greenfield position in a start-up–like environment, where you will shape the architecture, tooling, and way of working for the software domain.
You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the embedded Linux stack on a System-on-Chip platform, while ensuring robust communication, logging, and data handling capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Embedded Linux Development Set up and maintain an embedded Linux platform. Create reproducible builds and a stable, maintainable system architecture Define and implement the software foundation for future scalability
Communication&Integration Design and implement reliable communication protocols, including UDP, CAN, Modbus, and Ethernet Ensure seamless integration between ECU, sensors, and external systems Prepare the system for field deployment with robust and testable interfaces
Logging, Telemetry&Cloud Connectivity Establish logging and telemetry pipelines Enable secure data transmission to cloud environments (e.g., via 5G connectivity) Lay the groundwork for future back-office and data science applications
Tooling&Test Support Develop internal engineering tools and lightweight GUIs for testing and validation Replace ad-hoc tools with structured, production-ready solutions Ensure testability and reproducibility across development and validation activities
Architecture&Way of Working Define the initial software architecture, codebase structure, and development standards Create pragmatic, high-value documentation without overburdening the team Contribute to building a scalable software organization from the ground up
Security&Compliance Implement“security by design” principles in the embedded software stack Address increasing cybersecurity requirements related to cloud connectivity and regulation Balance compliance needs with development velocity in a lean environment
Cross-functional Collaboration Work closely with firmware and hardware teams to ensure seamless system integration Support system-level problem solving from prototype through to field introduction
What Success Looks Like Working, validated communication protocols (UDP, CAN, Modbus, Ethernet) before field introduction A reproducible and maintainable embedded Linux build environment Practical, usable test tools and GUIs that support engineering and validation Clear, effective documentation that enables progress without slowing developmentA solid software foundation ready to support upcoming prototypes and future scaling
Your Profile: Skilled embedded software engineer, selfstarter wanting to build a new project and team for the future. Excellent communication skills in English and a collaborative mindset A European passport
What’s Offered: A challenging role in a high-tech, innovative environment Competitive salary and benefits 8% holiday allowance 7% annual bonus 40 vacation days (based on full-time employment) Commuting allowance Pension plan]
Relocation Support If you’re currently living abroad and are a European national. This position requires relocation to the Netherlands. Full relocation support is provided to ensure a smooth transition.
