Libra by Wolters Kluwer is a legal AI company focused on accelerating the way legal professionals work through advanced generative models and deep legal reasoning.
Role Overview As a
Senior AI Engineer
at Libra, you will play a central role in developing and enhancing our core product. You will build end‑to‑end product features that leverage the most advanced LLMs available via API, from chat‑based interfaces to complex behind‑the‑scenes integrations. You will work closely with Product, Legal Engineering, and Design teams to transform user needs into elegant, performant, and secure AI‑powered experiences used daily by lawyers across Europe.
What You’ll Do
Design, implement, and maintain AI‑driven product features end‑to‑end using LLM APIs.
Develop both visible chat‑based UX flows and non‑visible AI integrations that power Libra’s core functionality.
Build and optimize RAG systems, including document parsing, semantic chunking, and retrieval pipelines.
Build scalable, maintainable backend systems using FastAPI and modern Python tooling.
Design and implement agent orchestration systems for complex, multi‑step legal workflows.
Build infrastructure for evaluations and benchmarking, including continuous monitoring and alerting to ensure quality across all AI‑powered features (e.g., using Langfuse).
Ensure high security, reliability, and data privacy standards across all systems.
Collaborate closely with Product and Legal Engineering to rapidly prototype, test, and refine new AI use cases.
Stay ahead of the curve by exploring new models, tools, and techniques—including AI coding agents like Cursor and Claude Code.
Contribute to a pragmatic, execution‑focused engineering culture where simplicity and speed matter.
What You Bring
At least 4–5 years of relevant work experience in the role.
Deep experience building products that integrate large language models (LLMs) via APIs.
Proficiency with FastAPI, Python, and common data science packages.
Strong understanding of software engineering and security best practices.
Experience with modern AI developer tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).
Bonus: experience with TypeScript and front‑end development.
Excellent communication skills in English; German fluency is a plus.
Entrepreneurial mindset and a deep sense of urgency in achieving goals.
A self‑starter who enjoys autonomy but thrives in a collaborative team.
Pragmatic problem‑solving focused on impact, not hype.
Ability to balance trade‑offs between fast, simple solutions and long‑term scalability.
Passion for building products that make AI truly useful for real professionals.
What We Offer
Flexible working policy (2 days a week in the office, 3 days a week from home) and flexible working hours.
High‑impact engineering role at the forefront of AI and knowledge automation.
Opportunity to build and ship features that directly shape how lawyers work.
Collaboration with world‑class engineers, product thinkers, and legal experts.
Culture that values speed, ownership, and craftsmanship.
Competitive compensation.
