Embedded Software Test Automation Consultant - Freelance / Contracting

Utrecht, Netherlands - Hybrid-remote

6 months initial contract + likely extensions

Freelance / ZZP contract

Up to 75 EUR per hour (DOE)

32-40 hours per week

We’re supporting an innovative electronics scale-up that builds interactive embedded systems used globally in medical tech environments. Their product combines custom hardware, embedded Linux, and application software into a single integrated platform.

They are now looking for a

Freelance QA / Test Automation Engineer

to build their embedded software test automation capability from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Design and implement an automated test framework for

embedded Linux systems

...using Python and related frameworks

Use

Bash scripting

for test execution and device-level interaction

Execute and validate tests directly on physical embedded devices

Collaborate closely with embedded software engineers within agile sprints

Contribute to improving CI/testing pipelines and release reliability

Profile

Strong hands-on experience with

Embedded Linux environments and Bash scripting

Proven experience building

automation frameworks from scratch using Python

Comfortable working close to hardware and debugging system-level issues

Autonomous, proactive, delivery-focused mindset

BONUS...experience with medical devices
