As a Mid-level Electrical Engineer/Energy Consultant, you will become a key member of our Green Ports team– a global leader in sustainable maritime infrastructure and port solutions. What you do as a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer/ Energy Consultant You will be based in the Netherlands and the role may involve worldwide travel. You will act as an expert in port projects with electrical and/or energy components, ranging from high‑level conceptual studies to on‑site testing and commissioning of new or renovated installations. As a specialist, you will be a member of the multidisciplinary project team and, on other projects, act as a consultant directly cooperating with the client.

Conceptual and detailed design of electrical (power) systems for ports/terminals, shore power systems, wind farms, and solar systems

Consultancy on electrification of port operations and energy efficiency improvement, local renewable power generation, and infrastructure for clean‑energy carriers such as hydrogen

Design reviews of energy‑related systems designed by others

Cost estimates and economic evaluations (CAPEX and OPEX) of technical alternatives

Guidance of detailed electrical design works by local teams of Haskoning or other consultants

Where you will work You will become part of the Business Line Water&Maritime (BL W&M), focusing on maritime, climate resilience, and water technology. Within the Advisory Group Maritime&Renewables NL, we work on integrated projects in ports, waterways, rivers, and coasts, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Our Smart&Green Port teams address challenges from Net Zero and climate resilience to smart asset management and the energy transition of ports.

What you bring We are looking for a professional electrical engineer with experience in electrical power systems. You should possess:

Education: Bachelor (BSc) in Electrical Engineering

~5 years or more of relevant experience, preferably in a consulting, client, or contractor environment, or in electrical design within data centres or other mission‑critical environments

Sound knowledge of MV and HV (11 kV up to 400 kV) electrical engineering

Experience with indoor and outdoor substation designs

Intimate knowledge of local and international standards and codes

Ability to develop engineering documentation from first principles

Strong stakeholder liaison skills at all levels

Fluency in English and Dutch (B2) for internal and external interactions

Additional advantageous skills:

Knowledge of shore power systems and/or electrical installations on board ships

Experience with operations or design of electrically powered container handling equipment and its infrastructure

Understanding of clean‑energy carriers such as hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol and related technologies

Proficiency with PVsyst, Digsilent, ETAP, or equivalent electrical power systems modelling and analysis software

Track record of successfully generating new business within the renewable sector
