Service Engineer (Battery Energy Storage Systems), Amsterdam

Job Description The SOMS at Fluence is responsible for managing long‑term service agreements and customer relations for Battery Energy Storage Systems, ensuring safety, quality, and timely service delivery while adhering to Fluence’s core values and competencies. It requires relevant electrical engineering qualifications and certificates.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Long Term Service Agreements for a portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems including performance guarantees and warranties, ensuring scope of work is met, managing contracted services onsite in a timely and cost‑effective manner, with high quality.

Responsible for day‑to‑day customer relations in terms of communication, acting as first point of contact and advocating their interests within Fluence.

Track availability for sites, including recording of outages and excused events.

Document and track customer issues from initial occurrence to close.

Schedule and undertake preventive maintenance activities, coordinating work and ensuring availability of required resources and spare parts; initiate follow‑up actions.

Coordinate reactive maintenance activities, attending site when required to investigate a limited variety of moderately complex technical issues.

Initiate, perform, or participate in root‑cause analysis to improve and exceed reliability and availability requirements of the systems.

Call‑off or order spare parts required for maintenance activities on site.

Adhere to troubleshooting processes, determining a course of action based on established policies and procedures to solve routine problems and suggest improvements.

Proactively investigate issues on data acquisition systems or asset management software to diagnose and resolve issues on the Battery Energy Storage Systems, escalating to a senior service engineer if required.

Act as the interface between other functional groups including the 24/7 monitoring team, software, network&controls team, the delivery team and the safety and quality teams.

Maintain a continuous improvement mindset, identifying and initiating modifications to procedures and methods as required.

Schedule approved contractors for maintenance, manage and train contractors according to safe systems of work, standard instructions, and control invoices and payment.

Perform safety walks on site, ensuring safety issues are logged, initiating actions when unsafe or hazardous conditions are found and seeking support from a senior BESS service engineer or manager services when needed.

Initiate and support creation of site emergency response plans, ensuring they are documented, reviewed, and updated accordingly.

Perform or support customer trainings in O&M and FOS controls.

Expected to travel to project sites for maintenance activities.

Required Qualifications&Experience

Vocational education&training or bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering or similar background and minimum 2 years’ experience in electrical energy, or a master’s degree without prior experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to independently resolve a limited variety of moderately complex technical issues and initiate actions to prevent them from happening again.

Strong ability to communicate complex technical information, demonstrating effectiveness to non‑technical audiences.

Demonstrated skills in prioritisation of tasks and objective risk‑based management, and ability to provide input to others in setting their priorities based on experience.

Good understanding of customer needs and business drivers, acting accordingly.

Demonstrating ownership of responsibilities and initiating improvements when needed.

Experience working with a computerized maintenance management system to record or follow up on maintenance tasks.

Good understanding of all products of a Battery Energy Storage system, including its O&M guide, SOPs and troubleshooting processes.

Ability to maintain and expand productive working relationships.

Driver’s licence.
