Director of Software Engineering, Amsterdam

Our client is seeking for a hands-on Director of Software Engineering to lead large-scale engineering teams and drive the development of high-performance backend systems and platforms. This role will oversee technical strategy, architecture design, engineering execution, and team management across multiple projects and product lines.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in

Golang

backend development, large-scale distributed systems, and organizational leadership, with proven experience managing engineering teams of 50 or more members in fast-paced technology environments.

Responsibilities

Build and manage engineering teams from 0 to 50+

Define and drive the company’s backend engineering strategy, architecture standards, and technical roadmap.

Oversee the design, development, scalability, performance, and reliability of distributed backend systems built primarily with

Golang .

Collaborate closely with Product, Infrastructure, DevOps, QA, and business stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with business goals.

Establish engineering best practices by driving technical decision-making, architecture optimization, development standards, system reliability, and high-performing team development through hiring, mentoring, and organizational leadership

Ensure system scalability, security, stability, and operational excellence for large-scale platforms and services.

Foster a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science or a related field.

Fluency in both English and Chinese is required to support effective communication and seamless collaboration across international teams and cross-border stakeholders.

Experience in

Golang .

Proven track record of leading multiple products from concept and initial development through full-scale launch and growth.

At least 5 years of experience managing large-scale teams; candidates with an internet / web3 / gaming industry background are preferred.

Strong technical architecture and strategic vision across multiple domains, with hands-on expertise in designing and building scalable, end-to-end large-scale systems across business, application, data, and infrastructure layers.

Strong team leadership capabilities and excellent cross-functional and cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills.

Must be willing to relocate to Amsterdam (relocation is supported).
