Senior Python Engineer - Payments Orchestration, Amsterdam

NjiaPay is building the payment platform for Africa. Our founders and leadership team include alumni of Adyen, the company that set the standard for global payments, and we're applying that playbook to the continent where the next billion consumers come online and where the acceptance stack is still being built. We've closed our seed round and are scaling fast.

Our orchestration platform sits above Africa's fragmented payments landscape and routes every transaction to the processor most likely to approve it. The result for merchants: higher success rates, fewer abandoned checkouts, and a single integration that scales across the continent. We're already live with merchants today and on a trajectory to over a million payments a day.

The Role We're hiring Senior Engineers to build the core of that platform. You'll work across the stack: backend, frontend, infrastructure, testing, observability, shaping both the payment engine and the merchant portal sitting on top of it. This is a broad role for engineers who think in systems and want their fingerprints on the architecture of a category-defining company.

Running on Python (FastAPI) and Vue.js on Google Cloud, the platform already processes tens of thousands of payments a day for merchants across Africa, on a path to over a million. You'll ship features, run the platform in production, and drive its evolution alongside a small, senior team. We move fast: progress beats perfection, decisions get made in days not quarters, and engineers own outcomes end-to-end.

Bonus points for domain depth that compounds with ours: payments specifics (routing, tokenization, fraud, retries), African market experience, data engineering (DBT) or applied ML for conversion optimization, or time inside a high-velocity startup. None of these are required, but any of them will help you hit the ground running.

This role comes with real autonomy. The management team will lean on you for technical judgement, architectural calls, and the trade-offs that come with a small team building at serious scale. Experience

5+ years of experience (required), of which 1+ years in payments, fintech, or SaaS

You have designed, built, and shipped products end-to-end

Startup experience or similar team setup in larger organisations

Experience building technical platforms and owning complex projects

Hours, Availability, and Compensation Full-time, 40-hour week, salary plus meaningful equity. Hybrid, with partial in-office presence at our office in Amsterdam. Expect occasional travel to South Africa for conferences and partner meetings.

Open to candidates based in the Netherlands, or Cape Town only. In principle no relocation or visa sponsorship.
