Purpose As a Lawyer in the Corporate, Employment and Litigation Division you will represent the EIB as an agent in litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union. You will also provide legal advice in institutional and European Union law, in particular as regards legal questions arising from the organisation and operation of the EIB as a body of the EU, the EIB’s Transparency Policy, the EIB’s Anti-Fraud Policy, the EIB’s Complaints Mechanism, matters relating to maladministration, staff-related legal issues.

Operating Network The successful candidate will report to the Head of Division and collaborate with the other lawyers and assistants in the Division, as well as with other Divisions and Departments of the Legal Directorate. You will also collaborate with other Directorates within the Bank as well as with external counterparts, other IFIs or EU institutions.

Accountabilities

Provide legal advice, in the form of notes and opinions, on complex legal matters in the areas for which the division is responsible.

Represent the EIB as an agent in litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Undertake research and conduct studies on legal issues across the areas for which the division is responsible.

Represent the EIB’s Legal Service in internal and external working groups (meetings, panels and task forces).

Liaise with external counsel and supervise their work, whenever necessary.

Maintain contact with the division’s counterparts, both within and outside the EIB.

Participate in any other activities relevant to the division’s work.

Proactively keep up to date with relevant legal developments.

Build and maintain relationships within the EIB and external legal advisers and represent EIB externally.

Qualifications

University degree in law, minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor and preferably at Master’s level.

Master’s degree in EU law and bar qualification would be a strong asset.

At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in EU institutions or bodies or with a law firm of international repute.

Experience in EU litigation would be a distinct advantage.

Deep knowledge of EU law would be an asset.

Very good knowledge of standard computer tools and familiarity with databases relating to EU law.

Excellent knowledge of English and/or French, with a good command of the other. Knowledge of further languages of the European Union would be an asset.
