About our team iScience is a peer‑reviewed journal from Cell Press that provides a platform for original research in the life, physical, earth, social, and health sciences. We aim to fuel interdisciplinary thinking and consider research with significant contribution to a relevant field combined with robust results and underlyingmethodology.

About the role We are seeking an entry‑level editor with a PhD degree in any area related to physical, earth, or environmental science, with excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to evaluate research critically while working effectively in a team.

In this role, you will support the commissioning, acquisition, and recruitment of manuscripts in the physical science field. You will help shape the journal by managing submissions, coordinating peer review, and engaging with the scientific community. You will work closely with a collaborative team dedicated to advancing open science and interdisciplinary research.

Responsibilities

Recruiting exciting research studies, commissioning and managing a pipeline of high‑quality content across physical, earth, and environmental science areas.

Identify opportunities of new subject areas to recruit manuscripts and support the growth of the journal.

Establish relationships with researchers and represent the journal and Cell Press through outreach to research communities and recruiting exciting papers.

Build connections with authors and reviewers by traveling to scientific conferences and visiting academic institutes.

Review, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback on submitted manuscripts and research papers in electrical engineering, data science, machine learning, and related fields.

Provide outstanding author service and oversee the peer review process.

Strengthen and build the visibility and reputation of the journal.

Contribute to strategic planning and journal development with the editorial team.

Build effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond, contributing to broader Cell Press initiatives to shape the future of science communication.

Requirements

Have a PhD degree in any area related to physical, earth, or environmental science. Candidates with a background in electrical engineering or data science will be preferred, but other areas will also be considered, including physics, materials science, energy, earth science, and environmental science.

Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with a collaborative problem‑solving mindset.

Interest in engaging with the scientific community.

Able to work successfully both independently and in a diverse global team.

Have a natural ability to engage, influence, and build relationships with stakeholders, teams, and our community.

Utilize critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research.

Previous editorial experience, with a good understanding of all aspects of the journal publishing process, would be an added advantage but not a requirement.
