Tesla is seeking a Software Product Support Engineer for High Voltage Battery to join our Service Engineering team in Europe, which is part of the Vehicle Software organization. This role is a key connection point between the needs of the European market and global software development teams. It ensures that Tesla vehicle HV battery systems operate as intended while minimizing the cost of servicing and ownership. Responsibilities include analyzing data to identify issues or trends, creating repair and diagnostic procedures for vehicle repair technicians, and developing software‑based fixes and diagnosability enhancements that roll out Over‑The‑Air to vehicles. When a failure mode is unknown or new, Service Engineering gets to the root cause and owns issues through resolution. The role also supports the implementation of EU HV Battery related legislation such as theBattery Passport.
Responsibilities
Debug and diagnose field failures remotely and directly in the field, collaborating closely with worldwide service teams. Occasional travel to perform on‑site root cause analysis, testing, and training is necessary.
Develop diagnostic content and onboard and offboard diagnostic software tools. This includes contributing to the“Service Mode” on‑board diagnostic tool and developing vehicle alerts.
Diagnose issues at scale– identify and track common issues or trends, and coordinate with relevant teams to perform further root cause analysis where necessary.
Design, develop, and test improvements, mitigations, and diagnostic enhancements in software to mitigate or eliminate issues.
Review existing and proposed HV battery related EU regulations, assess their impact on current or future Tesla products, and coordinate with stakeholders to implement and support.
Support the introduction of new HV Battery technologies to Europe and maximize vehicle cross‑compatibility.
Review user experience issues and deficiencies relating to fast charging or thermal‑related behaviors, and work with development teams to address them through firmware or hardware improvements.
Qualifications
MS degree in CS, CE, EE or similar fields.
Must be fluent in English (additional foreign languages a plus).
Experience with programming in C.
Experience with data acquisition and analysis and processing tools, including Python.
Advanced understanding of HV battery systems, including li‑ion battery technology and degradation mechanisms.
An awareness of the worldwide EV development status quo as it relates to powertrain technology, specifications, and drive and charge performance.
Knowledge of HV battery thermal requirements and controls.
Able to review electrical schematics.
Knowledge of digital communication and protocols using CAN and Ethernet.
