Junior Technical Designer– Hardgoods: Mystic&North

About the Role
Are you passionate about how products are built, not just how they look? Do you get excited by construction details, materials, and seeing a prototype evolve into a finished product?
As Junior Technical Designer– Hardgoods, you’ll support the Technical Design Lead – Hardgoods in bringing Mystic and North’s hardgoods to life. From harnesses and helmets to travel gear, hardware, and protection equipment, you’ll play a hands‑on role in transforming technical concepts into precise, production‑ready engineering files.
This is an operational, detail‑driven role at the heart of product creation—perfect for someone who loves working with drawings, specs, samples, and real‑world testing, and wants to grow into a strong technical designer within the action sports industry.
What You’ll Be Working On
You’ll support the technical development of hardgoods across Mystic and North, including:
Shells&soft goods constructions
Bar systems, hardware&components
These products support our Accessories, Kite, Wing/Foil, Windsurf, and Board categories.
What You’ll Do
Technical Execution&Documentation
Create and update technical drawings, construction files, panel layouts, reinforcement maps, and component placements.
Maintain technical specs, BOMs, trims, materials lists, and measurement charts.
Prepare and refine engineering documentation under guidance of the Technical Design Lead.
Prototype Coordination&Sample Management
Track development samples (A/B/C/Proto) and maintain accurate sample logs.
Prepare prototype documentation and ensure factories receive correct, up‑to‑date files.
Coordinate sample flow with Sourcing&QC.
Perform hands‑on inspections of samples—checking stitching, construction accuracy, hardware placement, and finishing.
Testing Support
Assist with fitting sessions, durability checks, stress and load tests, and hardware evaluations.
Support on‑water, field, or lab testing when relevant.
Document performance feedback with notes, photos, and videos.
Help capture and translate test learnings into technical improvements.
Apply specified materials, reinforcements, foams, plastics, composites, and hardware into construction files.
Maintain and update component libraries (buckles, webbing, EVA panels, shells, molded parts, etc.).
Track material and trim updates with Sourcing, QC, and Product Management.
Work closely with Product Managers to align technical files with briefs, timelines, and costing.
Collaborate with Graphic Designers to accurately integrate labels, artworks, prints, and embellishments.
Support communication with factories (via Sourcing/QC) to clarify construction questions or changes.
Quality&Issue Resolution
Support quality checks during development and pre‑production.
Help identify construction issues, defects, and spec deviations.
Participate in root‑cause analysis and implement feedback from the Technical Design Lead.
Process&File Management
Maintain clean, organized digital file structures for CAD, BOMs, tech packs, and revisions.
Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and version‑controlled.
Support preparation of final technical packages for factory handover.
Who You’ll Work With
Internal: Technical Design Lead– Hardgoods (your main mentor), Category Directors, Product Managers (Mystic&North), Graphic Designers, Sourcing&QC, Supply Chain.
External: Factories&suppliers, Material vendors, Athletes and testers (via PMs or Technical Lead).
What We’re Looking For
A relevant academic background (technical design, product engineering, industrial design, or similar).
Strong interest in product construction, materials, and engineering processes.
Industry knowledge is essential—hands‑on experience is a big plus.
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing technical files.
Curious, proactive, and eager to learn from experienced technical designers.
Passion for action sports and performance‑driven products is a strong advantage.
