Project Overview Intelligent Electrical Power Grids (IEPG)– a 21‑month postdoctoral appointment (first 12 months on a fixed term contract) in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science at TU Delft. The position is part of the MITIGATE‑HARM project, which advances the planning and interoperability of HVDC grids by enablingharmonic stability assessment of hybrid power systems (HPS) and proposes mitigation measures for identified instabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Develop mathematical frameworks for identifying instabilities and resonances within the HPS.
Propose mitigation strategies to ensure wideband passivity and stable operation of the power system.
Implement identification and mitigation algorithms in C++ and integrate them into the Harmony toolbox ( with the IEPG research group and external partners (TSO and academia) to validate models and simulation results.
Qualifications
Excellent knowledge of electrical power systems and power electronics.
Experience in modelling and simulation of power‑electronic based systems, including identification of resonances, instabilities, and their mitigation.
In‑depth understanding of HVDC power systems, power‑electronic device operation, and control, with experience in impedance‑based stability assessment.
Strong programming skills in C++; knowledge of PSCAD simulation is a plus.
Ph.D. in a highly technical discipline (electrical engineering, computer science, etc.) with a top‑of‑class academic record.
Excellent English communication skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
Independent, self‑motivated, and eager to learn; collaborative and able to link real‑world challenges to research outcomes.
Benefits&Conditions of Employment
Duration of contract: 21 months (12‑month fixed term followed by a 9‑month extension). 38–40 hours per week.
Salary and benefits according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
Excellent pension scheme via ABP.
Flexible working week with the possibility of drafting an individual employment package each year.
Health‑insurer discounts on supplemental packages.
Annual leave: 232 hours (at 38 hours/week) with options to buy or sell additional leave hours through an individual choice budget.
Opportunities for continuing education, training, and courses.
Partially paid parental leave and a vitality program promoting healthy work‑life balance.
Relocation Support TU Delft offers comprehensive relocation assistance, including information, events, and a Dual Career Programme for partners.
