EFFECT Photonics is a technology scale‑up founded in Eindhoven. We develop highly sophisticated optical sub‑assemblies (OSAs), including, among others, high‑performance lasers for the telecommunications market, built around integrated photonics chips on the indium phosphide platform.
We are looking for an experienced Product Engineering Manager– Photonics. You will be part of our New Product Development (NPD) team and will be the guardian of product integrity. You bridge the gap between initial R&D concepts and market‑ready solutions. Your mission is to ensure that our next generation Tunable Lasers not only move toward production but strictly adhere to performance specifications and meet all functional requirements throughout the development lifecycle. We want you to bring your expertise, experience, and passion along with a demonstrated track record of delivering new complex products to join us in creating a world‑class company.
Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities
PhD or MS degree in Electronics, Optics, Physics or related technical field
10+ years of experience in telecommunications and/or microelectronics
Previous experience in team management
Good understanding of (integrated) photonic components
Experienced in New Product Introduction, working with cross‑functional teams and with offshore contract manufacturing
Experienced with production processes and controls
Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to solve problems through fact‑based decision‑making processes
Ability to propose and drive solutions through cross‑functional teams
Proficiency with statistical data analysis platforms like JMP with the ability to draw conclusions and define actions
Reliability engineering experience with Telecom class products is an asset
Willingness to travel to Asian CM (~15-20%)
Responsibilities
Team leadership:
Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers which act as primary link between other NPD groups such as PIC design, Validation, OSA design (Optical Sub Assembly), Calibration and Foundry.
Technical Ownership&Compliance:
Act as the final gatekeeper to ensure every product meets its datasheet specifications, functional and Telcordia requirements.
Industrialization / NPI:
Oversee the transition from prototype to volume production and drive the“Design for X” (DfR, DfM, DfT) philosophy within the development cycle, ensuring that technical trade‑offs do not compromise the product’s functional roadmap.
Ensuring all milestones are met for product release with scalability in mind
Verify internal and external Work instructions, KPIs, Cpks, GR&R and cooperate with the Operations team and the Quality manager.
Yield and Optimization:
Analyse and correlate performance of key parameters spanning the whole production chain from final test down to wafer to optimize overall yield and cost
Help other NPD teams to improve and modify designs to meet requirements in terms performance, time‑to‑market, yield, cost and reliability.
Support contract manufacturers with root cause analyses and corrective actions (RCA/CA) whenever necessary
Lead yield improvement with support from Operations
Maintain relevant documentation
in our Product Life Cycle Management Software.
