Scope of Position This role requires strong familiarity with embedded control systems and firmware‑driven components, with an emphasis on understanding how software and hardware interactions influence quality, reliability, and field performance.
Zero Motorcycles is seeking a hands‑on Quality Engineer (Electrical) to strengthen electrical quality and reliability across product development, production, and customer operations. This role provides technical leadership in ensuring the quality of electrical systems, supporting both production partners and powertrain customers.
The Quality Engineer will drive cross‑functional problem‑solving, contribute to new product introduction readiness, and resolve electrical issues impacting production or customers. The position is based in Noord‑Scharwoude and/or Amsterdam, Netherlands, and is full‑time, Monday through Friday, reporting to the Global Manager Quality Engineering.
Occasional travel (2‑3 days at a time) within Europe is expected, with potential trips to the United States and global manufacturing sites.
Key Responsibilities
Lead quality initiatives for electrical and embedded control systems (firmware, battery packs, BMS, chargers, controllers, wiring harnesses) across all product lifecycle stages, including software release readiness and firmware reliability assessments.
Support new product introduction (NPI) by reviewing validation results, engineering changes, and production readiness.
Resolve electrical quality issues affecting production and powertrain customers using structured problem‑solving (8D, 5‑Why, Ishikawa, etc.).
Collaborate with engineering teams to embed reliability and safety requirements into new designs.
Partner with production partners to ensure containment, corrective actions, and continuous improvement are implemented effectively.
Monitor and analyze quality data, warranty trends, and field reports to identify systemic risks.
Work closely with firmware engineering teams to review embedded software changes, assess quality risks, and validate releases prior to production deployment.
Support debugging of embedded systems at the hardware/software interface, including controller firmware, communication buses (CAN, LIN, UART), and power electronics.
Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and global quality forums.
Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in electrical quality.
Education / Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
3+ years of experience in quality engineering, product development, or reliability within automotive, EV, aerospace, or related industries.
Experience working with embedded systems, control firmware, or software‑driven electrical architectures.
Direct exposure to firmware debugging tools, embedded logging, and communication protocols is highly desirable.
Skills and Attributes
Strong expertise in embedded system firmware, including interpreting firmware behavior through logs, understanding controller architecture, and assessing software‑related failure modes.
Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional resolution of complex technical issues.
Hands‑on experience with CAN bus analysis, ECU flashing, or embedded diagnostics tools (e.g., Vector, PTC, ETAS).
Understanding of functional safety concepts (ISO 26262) as applied to embedded systems is a plus.
Familiarity with ISO 9001; IATF 16949 knowledge is a plus.
Skilled in structured problem‑solving and data‑driven decision‑making.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non‑technical teams.
Fluent in English; Dutch, German, or French is a plus.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Hands‑on and practical with the ability to work on or around vehicles and production equipment.
Driving licences A and B required.
Ability to lift up to 23 kg when necessary.
Additionally
Competitive salary and benefits package.
Opportunities for personal and professional growth.
