At Nearfield Instruments we're looking for a PLC Software Engineer to join our team.
About Nearfield Instruments Nearfield Instruments (NFI) is a fast‑growing scale‑up high‑tech company that designs, develops, integrates, markets and services advanced metrology machines. Our machines enable our customers—the world’s leading chipmakers—to increase production yields and thus functionality of their microchips, leading to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Founded in 2016, NFI brings together the most creative minds across science and technology to develop a revolutionary high‑throughput scanning probe microscopy system.
What will you be doing? As a PLC Software Engineer you will develop, test, integrate and qualify the entire software stack of our machine, from low‑level embedded control to high‑level user interface and factory communication. You will help design, develop, and maintain functionality of the PLC layer, which is based on an EtherCAT network controlled by a Beckhoff master PLC.
Responsibilities
Design, configure, program, test, implement and/or manage PLC control systems and applications.
Draft, review and improve technical and functional documentation.
Identify, solve, and report problems in the field of control software.
Participate in the integration of various subsystems of the machine.
Why is the position interesting for you?
You have the ability to acquire technical knowledge quickly from documentation and on-the-job training, and can thoroughly investigate technical issues.
You receive high appreciation from the organization for your expertise.
You like working with Beckhoff PLC (Soft and Safety), TwinCAT 3 and mechatronic systems.
Where you will be working? Within our Design&Engineering department, this role is part of the Software Group, which consists of five teams. Your focus will be Device Control, where you will help develop control algorithms and support PLC choices.
What are we looking for?
3+ years’ PLC software development, OOP design/architecture, safety applications, SW testing, SW integration.
Experience with OOP design, Codesys, Beckhoff, TwinCAT.
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, CANopen, RS232/RS485, TCP/IP, OPC‑UA.
Proficiency in Structured Text; advantage in Instruction List (ladders, SFC, FBD).
Experience with source control and configuration (Git, CI/CD).
