Yacht has a new vacancy at our client - TNO (Geleen). We are looking for a candidate for the role of Research Engineer for Thermoplastic Composites Processing.

As a Research Engineer for Thermoplastic Composites Processing, you will be at the forefront of applied research and technology development. You will focus on the processing and recycling of thermoplastic composites, using innovative methods like mechanical recycling and additive manufacturing.

Your role involves hands-on execution of research projects, from conducting recycling trials and developing new processing methods to creating test samples and demonstrator parts. You will perform a variety of experiments, including extrusion, mechanical testing, and material characterization, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to interpret results and draw meaningful conclusions.

You will also be responsible for maintaining our cutting-edge processing and characterization facilities, collaborating with equipment suppliers to ensure smooth operations. A key part of your job will be to support the development of new processes and propose optimized solutions to meet our customers' needs.

In addition to your research work, you will present your findings through presentations and written reports and help guide students in the lab. Your proactive collaboration with the project team will be essential to achieving our research goals.

Responsibilities

Hands-on execution of research projects related to thermoplastic composites processing and recycling

Conduct recycling trials and develop new processing methods

Create test samples and demonstrator parts; perform extrusion, mechanical testing, and material characterization

Maintain and operate processing and characterization facilities; coordinate with equipment suppliers

Develop processes and propose optimized solutions to meet customer needs

Present findings through presentations and written reports

Guide students in the lab and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams

Qualifications

At least Bachelor’s Degree / Master in Chemistry, Applied Science, Materials Science

Expertise in fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymers, including processing and characterization

Fluent in English (verbal and written); Dutch language is preferred

Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, international team with multiple stakeholders

Employment details

Secondment agreement at TNO in Geleen via Yacht for one year, with possibility of extension

40 hours per week, on site

Start date: ASAP

Salary range:€3500 - €6000 gross per 4-week period (based on 40 h/week)
