Technical Application Engineer, Terneuzen

As a Technical Application Engineer, you play a crucial role in the deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of key technical applications that support complex engineering, maritime, and defense-related programs. You are responsible for ensuring that applications are reliable, secure, and resilient throughout their entire technical lifecycle, from initial setup to ongoing optimization and issue resolution. You will work closely with internal IT specialists, application owners, and external suppliers to maintain a robust and secure application landscape that meets both operational demands and long-term organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities In the position of Technical Application Engineer, you will be accountable for:

Creating and maintaining technical application solutions that are secure, scalable, and fit for enterprise use

Managing the technical operation of applications, including configuration, maintenance, updates, and patching, while safeguarding high availability

Continuously monitoring application performance, resolving incidents, and performing root cause analysis

Implementing and maintaining security measures at the application level in line with best practices

Handling integrations between applications, infrastructure components, identity and access services, and external systems

Supporting application-related changes and providing technical assistance during incidents

Contributing to the ongoing improvement of application platforms, while ensuring adherence to internal standards, policies, and procedures

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date technical documentation

Actively sharing knowledge to strengthen technical expertise and collaboration within the team

Qualifications

MBO-4 or Bachelor’s degree combined with approximately three to five years of relevant experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a comparable discipline

Strong understanding of enterprise application architectures, including client-server environments, multi-tier systems, web-based platforms, and SaaS solutions

Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, Citrix, 3DX, or Primavera are beneficial, with ITIL Foundation considered an advantage

Practical experience with installing, configuring, and technically operating enterprise applications

Proven ability to troubleshoot across operating systems, middleware layers, and network connectivity

Familiarity with application security principles, including hardening and access management

Preferred experience within maritime, defense, or highly technical engineering environments

Excellent command of the English language, with Dutch language skills being an asset

Excellent professional references, as a security screening forms part of the selection process

Mandatory permanent EU citizenship and a valid EU passport, due to security requirements linked to the military nature of the projects; candidates holding only EU work visas or dual EU and non-EU nationalities or passports are not eligible
