Mechanical Engineering | Applied Physics internship: system simulation evaluation Veldhoven
WO
Full-time
Introduction You will join the System Simulation Focal Area within ASML’s Development and Engineering organization in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. This team strengthens system-level engineering by enabling early and efficient simulation of complex, multi-physics systems. This internship supports that ambition by assessing a system-level modeling platform for industrial use. Your work helps the team understand how simulation tools can scale across engineering disciplines and applications. This internship offers you hands‑on exposure to advanced simulation challenges in a high‑tech, international environment.
Your assignment During this internship you explore how a system simulation platform can support reliable and efficient engineering decisions. You will investigate modeling approaches for dynamic systems and assess how reduced‑order models can improve simulation speed without losing accuracy. Your work directly contributes to building a robust system simulation workflow that engineers can apply across multiple use cases. Your main responsibilities will be:
Explore and understand reduced‑order modeling techniques supported by the selected simulation platform.
Develop dynamic system models and compare results with existing structural dynamics approaches.
Verify model accuracy through clear and reproducible simulation studies.
Set up simulation loops to assess dynamic behavior of structural systems.
Evaluate how structural models can interface with other physical domains, such as thermal effects.
Analyze strengths, limitations, and industrial readiness of the simulation platform.
Summarize findings and recommendations in clear technical documentation and presentations.
This is a bachelor/masters non thesis internship for minimum 6 months, 5 days per week (3 days on‑site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026.
Your profile To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are enrolled in a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, applied physics, aerospace engineering, or a closely related field.
Have a strong interest in computational mechanics, numerical methods, and system‑level modeling.
Understand structural dynamics and the fundamentals of finite element analysis.
Have basic knowledge of interactions between different physical phenomena.
Are analytical, structured in your work, and comfortable solving complex technical problems.
Communicate clearly in written and spoken English and enjoy collaborating with diverse teams.
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non‑EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
Inclusion and diversity ASML is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values and respects the importance of a diverse and inclusive workforce.
