Dismantling the toad screen on the Wageningse Berg. It is not heavy work, but there is a lot to do.
N225, near the water pumping station on the Wageningse Berg.
With this screen, approximately 1,400 toads and frogs are safely transported between the forest and the forest every year.
The largest population of the common toad in Wageningen is in the floodplain. Because of the heavy traffic, the mortality rate is very high if there were no screen.
Thanks to donations, it has fortunately been possible to have the screen installed since 2023.
We do the dismantling ourselves as volunteers.
What is the job The screen consists of 22 segments of 25m plastic film (70cm wide) connected with steel wire and pins that are held upright.
Cutting staples and unscrewing screws (tasks that require less energy)
Pulling loose plastic film that is 10‑20 cm deeply embedded in sandy soil
Swiping clean and rolling up the film
When March 21, 10 am–2 pm. You are welcome to join later or leave earlier.
Due to tools, please register in advance! Thanks
We help toads, frogs and newts cross roads during their migration. We also help them if they fall in drains at the street during this migration, or if the baby amphibians need to cross the road on their migration back to the wintering grounds.
